Free Essays on Cointelpro Vs. Black Panther Party
Cointelpro, what was it? Was it an organization created for fear and distrust the US government, or was it a government intervention? Basically Cointelpro was the FBI's secret program to undermine the popular upsurge, which swept the country during the 1960's. When breaking the law, for example, exposure, harassment, or prosecution for political crimes were getting out of hand, that's when the Cointelpro came in. The Bureau took the law into it's own hands and secretly used fraud and force to protect political activity. We found out about the Cointelpro thanks to a FBI office, which removed the secret files and presented it to the media on March 1971. A big scandal began, because of the lawsuits and requests of the public for bringing out new information about it. To control all of this damage, Congress and courts commanded to the FBI to reveal the other half of the information about it, and to promise it would not do repeat their actions again in the future. Although most of the info was stored back into the "secret files", some was copied from the originals and publicized. The Cointelpro worked by secretly instruct their field offices to propose schemes such as: misdirect, discredit, disrupt or otherwise neutralize certain individuals and groups. The most intense operations were directed against the Black movement, basically the Black Panther Party. The Black community had a lack of material resources to fight back, so the FBI and police (whites in general) took this as an advantage. Many other activities that opposed US intervention for racial, gender or class were also main targets under convert attack. There was no limit to those who used physical force or took up arms. Till today we ask ourselves what effect did this all have and did it ever really end? Well, it had a big effect on society. It reinforced the weaknesses... Free Essays on Cointelpro Vs. Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor Poorer Research Paper
Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor Poorer - Research Paper Example This research will begin with the statement that in the olden days, there were rich and there were poor, in the modern world we see people have different classes like rich and poor. But today the majority of the human race is facing a difficult time. This paper illustrates that the main reason of the difficulty is created by the man himself. Then we must have known what makes the two classes different from each other. Technology, homes, cars, etc are the dependable and viable commodities that are responsible to alter the class of a person. However, today, it is a commonly known fact that it is impossible for the poor to make steps towards changing their class, middle-class people are having difficulty in maintaining their economic position and rich are becoming richer. The present research has identified that most of the middle class is associated with the jobs and some researchers have the view that as the middle and lower level management are becoming less in number, more and more middle-class men are becoming jobless, that is becoming a huge reason of the degradation in the living standard of the middle-class persons. The author has rightly presented that the high-level jobs like assistant directors, assistant managers, etc lost them too. The similar case is with the low-level jobs like production jobs, the wages for such employs in underdeveloped to developed countries now a day is much lower as compared to the decline in the value of money. The production jobs are much valuable for the persons who have to work at extreme low wages when they have no job. In 1960, the low level employs are the member of a union that responsible for maintaining wages for the works but at the end of the year 1989 the union has only 17 percent members from the total production workers. The whole scenario has no or little impact on the large technology distributors and manufacturers, like Sony, Toyota, etc. These factories kept to produce the products according to their plans an d routine. Technology is also responsible for making the people poorer and rich richer, as if we consider a motor industry, during 1970, a Japanese based motor company required a time span of 24 hours to produce a vehicle (car) but now a day it takes not more the eight hours to produce a car by utilizing the robots instead of human workers. The robots replace the human workers and the persons who program and run the robots are quite less and no other person is thus required to performs the work like that of the robot. The economic condition of the middle class family is lowering day by day as the prices for the little luxuries like fuel, cost of food and medicine are rising, although technology is becoming cheaper but the cost of basic necessities are becoming higher. In this case it has become difficult for a middle class person to afford the luxuries without extra effort. According to sociologists unequal distribution of wealth has become a biggest reason of this sustainability. L ike the high level salaries of superstars, musicians, athletics, management payment and the rapid progress of financial sector etc. The taxes which are taken from high earners are very low and they are earning lot of money and paying a very small amount of tax. The departments which have already mentioned above are becoming rich with the passage of time. In the contrast the middle class people, who are doing common jobs, are giving high amount of tax of their salary as compared to the ratio of elite class.

Windows environment Essay Example for Free
Windows environment Essay If you get these 10 settings right, and youll go a long way toward making your Windows environment more secure. Each of these falls under the Computer Configuration\Windows Setting\Security Settings leaf. Rename the Local Administrator Account: If the bad guy doesnt know the name of your Administrator account, hell have a much harder time hacking it. Disable the Guest Account: One of the worst things you can do is to enable this account. It grants a fair amount of access on a Windows computer and has no password. Enough said! Disable LM and NTLM v1: The LM (LAN Manager) and NTLMv1 authentication protocols have vulnerabilities. Force the use of NTLMv2 and Kerberos. By default, most Windows systems will accept all four protocols. Unless you have really old, unpatched systems (that is, more than 10 years old), theres rarely a reason to use the older protocols. Disable LM hash storage: LM password hashes are easily convertible to their plaintext password equivalents. Dont allow Windows to store them on disk, where a hacker hash dump tool would find them. Minimum password length: Your minimum password size should be 12 characters or more. Dont bellyache if you only have 8-character passwords (the most common size I see). Windows passwords arent even close to secure until they are 12 characters long and really you want 15 characters to be truly secure. Fifteen is a magic number in the Windows authentication world. Get there, and it closes all sorts of backdoors. Anything else is accepting unnecessary risk. Maximum password age: Most passwords should not be used longer than 90 days. But if you go to 15 characters (or longer), one year is actually acceptable. Multiple public and private studies have proven that passwords of 12 characters or longer are relatively secure against password cracking to about that length of time. Event logs: Enable your event logs for success and failure. As Ive covered in this column many times, the vast majority of computer crime victims might have noticed the crime had they had their logs on and been looking. Disable anonymous SID enumeration: SIDs (Security Identifiers) are numbers assigned to each user, group, and other security subject in Windows or Active Directory. In early OS versions, non-authenticated users couldà query these numbers to identify important users (such as Administrators) and groups, a fact hackers loved to exploit. Dont let the anonymous account reside in the everyone group: Both of these settings, when set incorrectly, allow an anonymous (or null) hacker far more access on a system than should be given. These have been disabled by default since 2000, and you should make sure they stay that way. Enable User Account Control: Lastly, since Windows Vista, UAC has been the No. 1 protection tool for people browsing the Web. I find that many clients turn it off due to old information about application compatibility problems. Most of those problems have gone away, and many of the remaining ones can be solved with Microsofts free application compatibility troubleshooting utility. If you disable UAC, youre far closer to Windows NT security than you are a modern operating system.

And Then There Were None Essay -- essays research papers
à à à à à And Then There Were None, written by Agatha Christie is a thrilling tale of ten people invited to a remote island by an unseen figure who never appears throughout the story. All those who were invited have pasts that they are hiding and many things to fear. The guests are cast upon Indian Island, an island off the coast of England around the 1930s. Strangers to each other, slowly they reveal their shameful pasts. Coincidently, the name which they were invited by, Mr. U. N. Owen sounds similar to that of the word ââ¬Å"unknown.â⬠Among the characters is a Mr. Wargrave, a recently retired judge, who is intelligent, cold, and commanding. He takes leadership on the island after the killings begin. Wargrave is the first to insist publicly that they are dealing with a homicidal maniac, and the first to acknowledge that the killer must be part of their group. Vera Claythorne is witty and believes she was hired as a secretary to Mrs. Owen. Philip Lombard, a mysteri ous man, served as a soldier in Africa and often carries a gun with him. Among the other characters are William Blore, an ex-detective, and Dr. Armstrong who thinks he has been hired to look after the wife of the islandââ¬â¢s owner. Emily Brent, General Macarthur, Tony Marston think they have been invited for a visit with old friends. And Then There Were None examines justice, but it bends the manifestation by making the victims of murder, people who committed murder themselves. It expresses the theme of what the burden of oneââ¬â¢s own guilty conscience can lead that person to perform. à à à à à Upon arriving on the island, they are greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers who were hired as the butler and housekeeper. That evening after dinner they hear a recorded voice accusing each of them of a specific murder committed in the past and never uncovered. Talking about the accusations, they realize none of them actually have ever met or know ââ¬Å"Mr. U.N. Owen.â⬠As they ponder this mysterious matter, Tony Marston chokes on poisoned whiskey and dies. Vera Claythorne observes similarities between the death of Marston and the first verse of a nursery rhyme, ââ¬Å"Ten Little Indians,â⬠that hangs in each bedroom. The next morning the guests find that Mrs. Rogers apparently died in her sleep. The guests hope to leave that morning, but the boat that regularly delivers supplies to the island do... ...gives the book a wonderful plot and ending. The book addresses the idea that only the dead are above suspicion. A baffling mystery, And Then There Were None can be enjoyed by even the most immature [of people]. ââ¬Å"Ten Little Indiansâ⬠Ten little Indian boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were nine. Nine little Indian boys sat up very late; One overslept himself and then there were eight. Eight little Indian boys traveling in Devon; One said he'd stay there and then there were seven. Seven little Indian boys chopping up sticks; One chopped himself in halves and then there were six Six little Indian boys playing with a hive; A bumblebee stung one and then there were five. Five little Indian boys going in for law; One got in Chancery and then there were four. Four little Indian boys going out to sea; A red herring swallowed one and then there were three. Financial Statement Essay: Internal & External Users Essay
Abstract Whether or not myself or anybody else who may or may not be going to school to be an accountant, itââ¬â¢s still important to know the basic fundamentals of more than just a business and/ or company but the numbers as well. Any success comes from the time, patience, passion, potential, and MONEY. Money is most important because without it, how can anything become an investment. We have to learn the four basic financial statements to set ourselves for a future. Even if there are ones who are going to be internal users- such as managers or external users- ones who are creditors and investors that may use financial statements to use as a tool of decision making. In this essay, I have discussed the importance of financial statements and the usefulness that it is to both internal and external users. Identifying & describing the four basic financial statements. The backbone of financial accounting is arranged in four different financial statements. The first would be a balance sheet, in which the purpose of this financial statement is presenting a picture at a point in time of what the business owns (assets) and what it owes its (liabilities). The second, an income statement, which shows how successful your business is performed during a period of time and this is where you report all the revenues and expenses. Third, the retained earnings statement, which indicates how much of previous income was distributed to you and the other owners of your business in the form of dividends- shares, and how much was retained in the business to allow for further growth and increase. Lastly, a statement of cash flows, which shows where your business obtained cash during a period of time and how much cash was used. How financial statements can be useful to internal users. Financial statements would be useful to internal users because managers are those who plan, organize, and run an entire business; they have to be able to present summarized financial information, which is a financial statement. It is important for them to know because numbers matters when it comes down to any type of business. They have so many important questions that needs to be asked and answered; for an example, ââ¬Å"Is cash sufficient to pay dividends to Microsoft stockholders,â⬠which is a Finance question. All the information has to be detailed on a timely basis. Also, for internal users, accounting provides internal reports, such as forecasts of cash needs for the next year. How financial statements can be useful to external users. External users are investors- owners, creditors, and investors. Financial statements are very important when it comes down to external users. Investors buy and sell stocks based upon their own belief of a companyââ¬â¢s performance in the future; they are always interested in a companyââ¬â¢s past net income because it does provide information for predicting how well the companyââ¬â¢s will do. For an example, The United Airlines, creditors will ask ââ¬Å"Will United Airlines be able to pay its debts as they come due?â⬠Concerns all depends on the past, present, and future of a companyââ¬â¢s success of its net income because if investors and creditors didnââ¬â¢t have assurance in different types of businesses then the economy would suffer. Many prospective companyââ¬â¢s look to receive loans and borrow money so they can invest into something they have been planning over a period of time but, doesnââ¬â¢t have the funds to cover it so they are in need of sources to finance their vision. It takes money to make money. References Kimmel, P. D., Weygandt, J. J., & Kieso, D. E. (2011). Financial accounting: Tools for business making (6th ed.). Hoboken, NJ: John Wiley & Sons.

Behaviorism Theory Of Classical Conditioning - 1700 Words
Behaviorism is a theory that behavior can be altered through conditioning. Behaviorism does not focus on thoughts or feelings of the subject, just their behavior. Ivan Pavlov was a major part of this movement of behaviorism with his theory of classical conditioning. The most important part of classical conditioning is that it is done through repetition. In his experiment he began with noticing that an unconditioned stimulus like dog food causes an unconditioned response like salivation. He then noticed that if there was a neutral stimulus like the blowing of a whistle, there would be no conditioned response like the dog not salivating. Then he began to condition the dogs. He would blow the whistle and then send food out to the dog, causing them to salivate. Because this was done repeatedly, when the dogs heard the whistle they knew food was coming and began to salivate (Slavin, pg 102). This meant he conditioned the dogs so that a conditioned stimulus like a whistle caused the dogs t o have a conditioned response of salivation. Another example of behaviorism is B.F. Skinnerââ¬â¢s theory of operant conditioning. Skinner discovered that peoplesââ¬â¢ behavior is based off consequences. He noticed that there are positive reinforcements, negative reinforcements, positive punishments, and negative punishments. He discovered that if someone wants to encourage a behavior, they can provide a positive reinforcement which is adding a stimulus to increase the frequency of that good behavior.Show MoreRelatedThe Theory Of Classical Conditioning And Behaviorism753 Words à |à 4 PagesThe paper explores the life and the theory of a Russian scientist, physiologist call Ivan Pavlov, who was born in Russia in September 23, 1849 and died in February 27, 1936.
