Startres
At beginning, when the engine is fixed, there is no back e. m. f. in the armature. Thusly, if the engine is legitimately turned on to the mains, the armature will draw an overwhelming current (la = WRa) due to little armature opposition. For instance, 5 H. P. , 220 V shunt engine has a full-load current of 20 An and an armature opposition of around 0. 5 0. On the off chance that this engine is straightforwardly turned on to flexibly, it would take an armature current of 220/0. 5 = 440 A which is multiple times the full-load current. This high beginning current may bring about: (I) consuming of armature because of exorbitant warming ffect, harming the commutator and brushes because of substantial starting, (iii) unreasonable voltage drop in the line to which the engine is associated. The outcome is that the activity of different apparatuses associated with the line might be disabled and specifically cases, they may decline to work. So as to maintain a strategic distance from unreasonab le current at beginning, a variable obstruction (known as beginning opposition) is embedded in arrangement with the armature circuit. This opposition is bit by bit diminished as the engine picks up speed (and henceforth Eb increments) and in the end it is removed totally when the engine has ttained max throttle. The benefit of beginning obstruction is commonly with the end goal that beginning current is restricted to 1. 25 to multiple times the full-load current. 5. 8 Types of D. C. Engine Starters The slowing down activity of a d. c. engine comprises in the inclusion of outside opposition into the armature circuit to restrain the beginning current taken by the engine and the evacuation of this obstruction in ventures as the engine accelerates. When the engine achieves the ordinary speed, this opposition is completely removed of the armature circuit. It is significant and attractive to give the starter defensive evices to empower the starter arm to come back to OFF position (I) when t he gracefully comes up short, along these lines forestalling the armature being legitimately over the mains when this voltage is reestablished. For this reason, we utilize no-volt discharge curl. (it) when the engine gets over-burden or builds up a flaw making the engine take an exorbitant current. For this reason, we use over-burden discharge coil. There are two chief sorts of d. c. engine starters viz. , three-point starter and four-point starter. As we will see, the two sorts of starters contrast just in the way in which the no-volt discharge curl is associated. 5. 9 Three-Point Starter This kind of starter is generally utilized for beginning shunt and compound engines. Schematic outline Fig. (5. 16) shows the schematic chart of a three-point starter for a shunt engine with defensive gadgets. It is alleged in light of the fact that it has three terminals L, Z and A.The starter comprises of beginning opposition separated into a few segments and associated in out to various studs. T he three terminals L, Z and An of the starter are associated separately to the positive line terminal, shunt field terminal and armature terminal. Different terminals of the armature and shunt field windings are associated with the negative terminal of the flexibly. The no-volt discharge loop is associated in the shunt field circuit. One finish of the handle is associated with the terminal L through the over-load discharge coil. The opposite finish of the handle moves against a winding spring and reaches each stud during beginning activity, removing increasingly beginning obstruction as it disregards each stud clockwise way. Activity (I) To begin with, the d. c. gracefully is turned on with handle in the OFF position. (ii) The handle is currently moved clockwise to the main stud. When it interacts with the main stud, the shunt field winding is straightforwardly associated over the flexibly, hile the entire beginning obstruction is embedded in arrangement with the armature circuit. ii i) As the handle is continuously moved over to the last stud, the beginning obstruction is removed of the armature circuit in steps. The handle is presently held attractively by the no-volt discharge loop which is invigorated by shunt field current. (ââ¬Ëv) If the flexibly voltage is unexpectedly hindered or if the field excitation is coincidentally cut, the no-volt discharge loop is demagnetized and the handle returns to the OFF situation under the draw of the spring. In the event that no-volt discharge loop were not utilized, hen if there should be an occurrence of disappointment of flexibly, the handle would stay on the last stud.If then gracefully is reestablished, the engine will be legitimately associated over the gracefully, bringing about an exorbitant armature current. (v) If the engine is over-stacked (or a deficiency happens), it will draw unreasonable current from the flexibly. This present will expand the ampere-turns of the over-load discharge loop and pull the arma ture C, in this way shortcircuiting the novolt discharge curl. The no-volt curl is demagnetized and the handle is pulled to the OFF situation by the spring. In this way, the engine is consequently separated from the gracefully. Fig. (5. 17) DrawbackIn a three-point starter, the no-volt discharge curl is associated in arrangement with the shunt field circuit so it conveys the shunt field current. While practicing speed control through field controller, the field current might be debilitated to such a degree, that the no-volt discharge loop will most likely be unable to keep the starter arm in the ON position. This may disengage the engine from the flexibly when it isn't wanted. This disadvantage is defeated in the four point starter. 5. 10 Four-Point Starter In a four-point starter, the no-volt discharge loop is associated straightforwardly over the gracefully line through a defensive obstruction R. Fig. (5. ) shows the schematic chart of a 4-point starter for a shunt engine (over-lo ad discharge loop precluded for clearness of the figure). Presently the no-volt discharge curl circuit is autonomous of the shunt field circuit. In this manner, legitimate speed control can be practiced without influencing the activity of novolt discharge loop. between a three-point starter and a four-point starter is the way where no-volt discharge curl is associated. Be that as it may, the working of the two starters is the equivalent. It might be noticed that the threepoint starter likewise gives insurance against an openfield circuit. This insurance isn't given by the four-point starte

The Hellenic Period Essays - Ancient Greek Philosophers, Parmenides
The Hellenic Period During the Greek Golden Age, craftsmanship and theory communicated hellenic weltanschauung, their interesting point of view toward the world and lifestyle. Through crafted by specialists, writers, and scholars, one can see the two sides of the tangled frameworks of the world, for example, great versus insidious, request versus bedlam, solidness versus transition, relativism versus absolutism and parity and congruity. The Greeks were realists. They embraced the philosophical regulation which says that physical issue is the main reality known to mankind; everything else, including thought, feeling, mind and will can be clarified as far as physical laws. Their realism was communicated in an inordinate respect for common, lovely material things and concerns. They utilized their specialty to show the wonders of mankind and man. The stone workers of the Golden Age intended to make smooth, solid and superbly framed figures. Their specialty indicated common positions and attentive articulati ons as opposed to extract artistic expressions. Their gauges of request and parity became measures for traditional workmanship in western progress. The Greeks were glad for their sanctuaries and other engineering, made to respect the divine beings and decorate the polis (city-state). Their popular compositional styles were the overwhelming Doric sections and the slim looked over Ionian segments. The Parthenon, the Greek sanctuary for the goddess Athena, is a flawless case of balance and extent. The sides of the Parthenon give an optical dream of ideal parity on all sides. Their longing for balance in workmanship and engineering speaks to the equalization of the world; request and balance are communicated in the effortlessness of lines and shapes. The subsequent generally speaking structure cooperates to accomplish concordance. In old Greece, open dramatization was more than diversion. It was a type of state funded training. It managed issues of significance to the individuals, for e xample, the authority of the pioneers, the intensity of the individuals, inquiries of equity, profound quality, wars, harmony, the obligations of the divine beings, family life and city living. Aeschylus expounded on the rages and how they rebuffed man for bad behaviors. This shows he accepted that confusion would be rebuffed on the grounds that request (and law) is the perfect state. Sophocles is most popular for his plays of Oedipus. Those plays managed family and community faithfulness. The Greeks stressed, especially in their plays, the significance of steadfastness as an objective to take a stab at. We become familiar with a ton about Greek perspectives through their way of thinking, which actually implies the adoration for information. The Greeks taught through a progression of inquiries and answers, so as to all the more likely educate about existence and the universe. The principal logician was Thales. He had confidence in absolutism and interminable issue. He said that wate r was the first issue and that without it, there would be no life. Parmenides expressed that steadiness and perpetual quality were the fundamental states of the universe. He accepted that change is just a dream and that one's faculties can just handle shallow real factors of progress. Heroditus contended with Parmenides saying that change was the essential state of the real world. He further asserted that all lastingness was bogus. Hence he considered things to be normally being in transition as opposed to a steady state. Democritus contended with both Parmenides and Heroditus. He demanded that there is not much and that lone issue existed. He at that point proceeded to state that everything is made of minimal undetectable particles, snared in various plans. He was an atomist. The Greek thinkers proceeded to scrutinize the idea of being and the significance of life. Pythagoras was the main metaphysicist, one who concentrates past physical presence. He had faith in a partition among soul and body, a restriction among great and insidious and among disagreement and concordance. In the fifth century, the Greeks gained from Sophists, who accepted that the perspectives on society are principles and the sole estimation of good, truth, equity and excellence. Protagoras was a skeptic. He said that, man is the proportion of all things. He had confidence in a consistent transition, and that nothing is totally right or wrong, yet subject to change. His view is a lot of like that held by Parmenides. The logicians at that point posed an inquiry, for example, what might occur if things that weren't right were seen by society as worthy? What, for

Comparative Essay Samples for Kids
Comparative Essay Samples for KidsUsing comparative essays to compare and contrast with the contents of the same subject is an excellent way to make a strong conclusion about what a student should do. However, there are some things that one should keep in mind before comparing these two subject and making a conclusion.Do not compare only one subject to another. The contrast in content in a subject is one of the main things that a student should consider. Therefore, if a student compares the homework from the home school to that of the public school, it is important that the differences between the content are not too much to be noticed. Although students could end up having a difficult time writing a good essay, if they would only focus on the content, they would be able to write a good essay. It is also important that the topics of the paper or the assignment to be the same. Although this seems like a simple task, many times students will make the mistake of looking at the subject ma tter from the outside. However, the content of the paper should be the same in both the subjects, with slight variations. If the student is sure that he can write the same essay because he has already practiced the subject in class and knows what he is doing, then it is OK to stick to the same topic. However, if the subject matter is new to the student, then using different syllabus and using terms in a different order may confuse him. The contrast between the two subjects should not be so much that it will seem like they are two separate subjects.Students should note the notebooks that they would use in both subjects. If the note books are the same in both subjects, the student would have no need to worry about the paper or the assignments. However, if the notes are not the same, then he would have to get the help of someone in order to know how to convert them into the common format. In order to make the differences between the two subjects even more apparent, the student must come up with a reason for the difference. For example, if the students are working on a combined science and math assignment, they can compare and contrast the content in the same way as if the student was working on a chemistry essay, and include some words that the student may not have considered before.Students who use their creative minds can also come up with ways to use these topics in order to make a creative statement about the topic. The difference in the topics would help the student make a great topic, however, if the students could come up with a way to make the content even more creative, the conclusion of the essay would be just as impressive. All students are encouraged to go through their notebooks and learn more about the subject matter.

The Jungle, And Notified The American Public - 1261 Words
In 1906 Upton Sinclair wrote The Jungle, and notified the American public about the true horrors within the meatpacking industry. Almost a century later, Eric Schlosser writes a very similar piece meant to shock and notify the American Public called Fast Food Nation- The Dark Side of the All-American Meal. The greatest element these two pieces have in common is that the cause for these horrific sanitary situations, hazardous employee norms, and foodborne illness outbreaks is all due to monetary greed of these large industries. Kenny was unable to complete school and read, so he wound up working at a meatpacking company called Monfort. Kenny was first placed to work in the shipping department. This required Kenny to lift packages as heavy as one hundred and twenty pounds. Kenny was a strong man, and thought he could handle the tough work that his job required. During an accident at work, Kenny was thrown onto the metal teeth of a conveyer belt. Kenny sought medical treatment first through the companyââ¬â¢s doctor, who told him he had only pulled a muscle. When the pain got unbearable, Kenny sought treatment elsewhere, and was told he had a pair of severely herniated disks and would need back surgery. Kennyââ¬â¢s operation was not successful, and after financial strains from the medical bills, Kennyââ¬â¢s wife left him. The Determinants Of Malaria In Sudan. The History Of Malaria
The determinants of Malaria in Sudan The history of malaria in Republic of Sudan can be analyzed to identify the current determinants of malaria risk. The main determinants of malaria is classified as purely demographic and population movement, Bio-medical and genetic factors, environmental factors, and socioeconomic determinant. Demographic and population movement: The significant associations were observed between malaria infection and selected socio-demographic characteristics of the study participants. The occurrence of malaria was found to be statically similar among men and women. As the MIS, (2012) observation stated that, there were major associations between malaria infection and selected socio-demographic characteristics. In theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦falciparum) aggravates the problem and results in increased malaria morbidity and mortality (CDC, 2015). Environmental factors: Environmental factors impact on malaria in different region of Sudan. As WHO (2033) stated that, this situation is largely due to widespread water, about 13% is high rainfall woodland Savannah in southern Sudan, and the most rural houses were often located near the source of water, and the water contamination in the urban surface runoff and poor environmental sanitation. The presence of water for irrigation around villages and houses played a major role in determining the risk of malaria. The large reductions of malaria can be intention to the means largely based on vector control in the intense transmission areas particularly in epidemic areas (WHO, 2003). Socioeconomic factors: As the Roll Back Malaria, (2015), indicated the links between endemic malaria and socioeconomic factors, especially in rural areas and among displaced people in Khartoum state, is scarce. The survey had undertaken to estimate economic impact of malaria by focusing on prevention and treatment cost borne by households and the public health sector, also considered the income losses due to malaria morbidity as indirect cost of the disease. In the rural communities, the economy is heavily dependent on agriculture; many subsistence families who live in disease-stricken areas including those with a high burden of malaria are leading to reduce agricultural productivityShow MoreRelatedScope of Demography8788 Words à |à 36 Pageslinking of parish church records, especially in France and Britain. Letter to Macduff free essay sample
A Letter to Macduff Dear Macduff, Oh, what you have missed! I have important news to tell you. A series of events happened at the banquet you failed to attend. The majesty left all of us thanes speechless and suspicious. It is not that I ever doubted your thoughts about Macbeth, but it is now clear to me that he is a guilty man with a conscience filled with remorse. The ceremony seemed as if it were going to be elegant and pleasing. There were an equal number of thanes on each side of the table. The king presented himself honorably as he sat down with the rest of us to ââ¬Å"play the humble hostâ⬠and announced that Lady Macbeth would keep her state. However not long after that things began to get strange. A dirt and bloody man walked through the doors of the dining room and Macbeth quickly got up and attended him. We will write a custom essay sample on Letter to Macduff or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Suspicious it was, my lord, for Macbeth seem unsatisfied with the news the ruffian delivered and before anything else could be said, Lady Macbeth interrupted and reminded Macbeth of his duties as a host. She seen overly agitated, embarrassed and desperate to get Macbeth away from the doors and back to the feast. She rightly said that a guest must be treated with social rituals and courtesy and must be reminded of how welcomed they are. However as she did this, those looking at his majesty discretely could tell that the bloody man was bringing him bad news and as soon as he heard Lady Macbeth he quickly dispatched the man from the banquet. In all honestly, it looked like Macbeth had someone do his dirty work for him and something went wrong however once he got back at the table he tried to put it aside and the feast began. That wasnââ¬â¢t all! If you had only been there to see what Lady Macbeth claimed was an illness of the kingââ¬â¢s infancy. His body was possessed with madness! As he was about to make a toast, he suddenly stopped as if his heart had stop beating and his expression changed from joy to intense fear and the he began to scream ââ¬Å"Which of you have done this? He did all this while looking at the empty chair that was meant to be filled by Banquo whom also did not attend the banquet. And things only became stranger. His majesty continuously repeated he had not done ââ¬Å"itâ⬠however he never mention what ââ¬Å"itâ⬠was. It seemed that some kind of vision appeared to be accusing him of something. What could he be accused of? You can only imagine that Lady Macbeth tried to ease the situ ation, by saying it was just a momentary fit and to do our best to ignore him, however this was very hard to do. She also demanded the guest not to ask any questions since it would feed and extend the kingââ¬â¢s passion. And of course no one did but all of us thanes were filled with curiosity and suspicion as to what was happening. She approached the king and had a word with him where no one could hear but by simply looking at her you could tell she was not content and as the conversation got intense their voices rose and we all heard the king declare that is charnel-house and graves sent back the bodies put in them then our graves would be like the maws of kite. As soon as the king and queen rejoined with their guest, Macbeth spoke and said he suffered from a strange infirmity. He pretended like nothing had happened and demanded wine. He might have fooled himself but not us, as it was obvious that there was more to the story than a simple illness. Furthermore my lord In the middle of the servant pouring the wine, the king began to grow pail and weak once more and then screams ââ¬Å"avaunt and quit my sight! â⬠all of us Thanes were confused since we were not sure if he was talking to us, but then it became clear that he was having another one of his episodes. This time, however, he revealed things our ears were not meant to hear. He confessed that what he was so vividly seeing was a ghost. Lady Macbeth tried once more to brighten the mood of the dinner but too much had been said and we all wanted to hear more. All present at the table looked at each other with one eye and had the other fixed on Macbeth. He seemed so certain that what he saw was real, the fear and remorse in his eyes could be seen from miles away and no one could help but wonder whose ghost he was seeing. Dear Macduff at this point I wouldnââ¬â¢t help but think that maybe it was your father king Duncan coming back for vengeanceâ⬠¦ Our suspicions grew even stronger by the end of his second episode. He paused, looked at us and asked us how we could see such things and not look pale moreover when Ross asked him with confusion what the sighs were, before the King could reply, Lady Macbeth firmly reminded us that questions would enrage him and then dismissed all of us and demanded to leave at once and not by order of importance. The scene was quite suspicious and most alarming Macduff. This whole ceremony was a disaster that will lead to Macbethââ¬â¢s fall my lord. Things were said and done at this event that no one thane should have seen or heard. Once we left the banquet you could hear the rumors on the street about the king, how he had gone mad, but those who were knowledgeable, began to think about the things that had happened and began to ask questions about the resent murders. How is it going with you Macduff? After attending the banquet last night, I am certain that Macbeth will go to any length to get what he want so please be careful, watch your back at all times. Hope everything is working out the way you hope. Your noble friend, Lennox P. S. You will not believe that news my ears have just heard. Banquo has been killed by savages. He was found in the wood stabbed to death. I wonder who would want him dead and why. Who will be next? This have gotten out of control around here and it is all because of the tyrant Macbeth. You must hurry and put a stop to this before anyone else gets hurt.

Vanguardia movement in cuba Essay Example
Vanguardia movement in cuba Paper The art of the Cuban culture goes back to prehistoric times, when thefirst traces where found in caves. This type of art was later labeled as folk art because of their nature and craftsmanship. During the 15th and 16thcenturies the island was full of poverty and not much art streamed out. Painters from foreign countries flooded into Cuba saying it was the key to the new world. The Cubans came back in the 17th and 18th centuries when artists flourished and art became prominent, mainly through Francisco Javier Baez. In modern times there are 3 artists that are believed to be the most influential: Wifredo Lam, Victor Manuel Garcia, and Amelia Pelaez. Wifredo Lam was born in Havana, Cuba in 1887. In his early days as an artist his subject matter revolved around still lifes and landscapes of the places he traveled to with the Association of Painters and Sculptures of Havana. When he moved to Spain in 1923 his style shifted from realism to cubism and then to surrealism. He had hisfirst e xposition in 1939. His style in that exposition consisted of simplified shapes influenced by cubism and African sculpture. From the 1950s on he started focusing his art on graphic design and ceramics. The major features of his mature art are refined and bold designs, with a sensual violence and a personal vision of the primitive poet. In his last 30 years Lam has been the focus of a lot of retrospective expositions and his work is framed in tons of art galleries around the world. Once he moved to Paris, his focal points changed and he started painting women and women with their children, hinting into the era of feminism. Eventually, his art was used influence the practitioners of Santeria. Once he had been painting for many years, he started using dark, bold colors and his painting turned more erotic than before and more abstract. Victor Manuel Garcia was born in Havana, Cuba in 1897. Free Essays on Cointelpro Vs. Black Panther Party
Cointelpro, what was it? Was it an organization created for fear and distrust the US government, or was it a government intervention? Basically Cointelpro was the FBI's secret program to undermine the popular upsurge, which swept the country during the 1960's. When breaking the law, for example, exposure, harassment, or prosecution for political crimes were getting out of hand, that's when the Cointelpro came in. The Bureau took the law into it's own hands and secretly used fraud and force to protect political activity. We found out about the Cointelpro thanks to a FBI office, which removed the secret files and presented it to the media on March 1971. A big scandal began, because of the lawsuits and requests of the public for bringing out new information about it. To control all of this damage, Congress and courts commanded to the FBI to reveal the other half of the information about it, and to promise it would not do repeat their actions again in the future. Although most of the info was stored back into the "secret files", some was copied from the originals and publicized. Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor Poorer Research Paper
Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor Poorer - Research Paper Example This research will begin with the statement that in the olden days, there were rich and there were poor, in the modern world we see people have different classes like rich and poor. But today the majority of the human race is facing a difficult time. This paper illustrates that the main reason of the difficulty is created by the man himself. Then we must have known what makes the two classes different from each other. Technology, homes, cars, etc are the dependable and viable commodities that are responsible to alter the class of a person. However, today, it is a commonly known fact that it is impossible for the poor to make steps towards changing their class, middle-class people are having difficulty in maintaining their economic position and rich are becoming richer. The present research has identified that most of the middle class is associated with the jobs and some researchers have the view that as the middle and lower level management are becoming less in number, more and more middle-class men are becoming jobless, that is becoming a huge reason of the degradation in the living standard of the middle-class persons. The author has rightly presented that the high-level jobs like assistant directors, assistant managers, etc lost them too. The similar case is with the low-level jobs like production jobs, the wages for such employs in underdeveloped to developed countries now a day is much lower as compared to the decline in the value of money. The production jobs are much valuable for the persons who have to work at extreme low wages when they have no job. In 1960, the low level employs are the member of a union that responsible for maintaining wages for the works but at the end of the year 1989 the union has only 17 percent members from the total production workers. The whole scenario has no or little impact on the large technology distributors and manufacturers, like Sony, Toyota, etc. These factories kept to produce the products according to their plans an d routine. Technology is also responsible for making the people poorer and rich richer, as if we consider a motor industry, during 1970, a Japanese based motor company required a time span of 24 hours to produce a vehicle (car) but now a day it takes not more the eight hours to produce a car by utilizing the robots instead of human workers. The robots replace the human workers and the persons who program and run the robots are quite less and no other person is thus required to performs the work like that of the robot. The economic condition of the middle class family is lowering day by day as the prices for the little luxuries like fuel, cost of food and medicine are rising, although technology is becoming cheaper but the cost of basic necessities are becoming higher. In this case it has become difficult for a middle class person to afford the luxuries without extra effort. According to sociologists unequal distribution of wealth has become a biggest reason of this sustainability. L ike the high level salaries of superstars, musicians, athletics, management payment and the rapid progress of financial sector etc. The taxes which are taken from high earners are very low and they are earning lot of money and paying a very small amount of tax. The departments which have already mentioned above are becoming rich with the passage of time. In the contrast the middle class people, who are doing common jobs, are giving high amount of tax of their salary as compared to the ratio of elite class.

Windows environment Essay Example for Free
Windows environment Essay If you get these 10 settings right, and youll go a long way toward making your Windows environment more secure. Each of these falls under the Computer Configuration\Windows Setting\Security Settings leaf. Rename the Local Administrator Account: If the bad guy doesnt know the name of your Administrator account, hell have a much harder time hacking it. Disable the Guest Account: One of the worst things you can do is to enable this account. It grants a fair amount of access on a Windows computer and has no password. Enough said! Disable LM and NTLM v1: The LM (LAN Manager) and NTLMv1 authentication protocols have vulnerabilities. Force the use of NTLMv2 and Kerberos. By default, most Windows systems will accept all four protocols. Unless you have really old, unpatched systems (that is, more than 10 years old), theres rarely a reason to use the older protocols. Disable LM hash storage: LM password hashes are easily convertible to their plaintext password equivalents. Dont allow Windows to store them on disk, where a hacker hash dump tool would find them. Minimum password length: Your minimum password size should be 12 characters or more. Dont bellyache if you only have 8-character passwords (the most common size I see). Windows passwords arent even close to secure until they are 12 characters long and really you want 15 characters to be truly secure. Fifteen is a magic number in the Windows authentication world. Get there, and it closes all sorts of backdoors. Anything else is accepting unnecessary risk. Maximum password age: Most passwords should not be used longer than 90 days. But if you go to 15 characters (or longer), one year is actually acceptable. Multiple public and private studies have proven that passwords of 12 characters or longer are relatively secure against password cracking to about that length of time. Event logs: Enable your event logs for success and failure. As Ive covered in this column many times, the vast majority of computer crime victims might have noticed the crime had they had their logs on and been looking. Disable anonymous SID enumeration: SIDs (Security Identifiers) are numbers assigned to each user, group, and other security subject in Windows or Active Directory. In early OS versions, non-authenticated users couldà query these numbers to identify important users (such as Administrators) and groups, a fact hackers loved to exploit. Dont let the anonymous account reside in the everyone group: Both of these settings, when set incorrectly, allow an anonymous (or null) hacker far more access on a system than should be given. These have been disabled by default since 2000, and you should make sure they stay that way. Enable User Account Control: Lastly, since Windows Vista, UAC has been the No. 1 protection tool for people browsing the Web. I find that many clients turn it off due to old information about application compatibility problems. Most of those problems have gone away, and many of the remaining ones can be solved with Microsofts free application compatibility troubleshooting utility. If you disable UAC, youre far closer to Windows NT security than you are a modern operating system.

And Then There Were None Essay -- essays research papers
à à à à à And Then There Were None, written by Agatha Christie is a thrilling tale of ten people invited to a remote island by an unseen figure who never appears throughout the story. All those who were invited have pasts that they are hiding and many things to fear. The guests are cast upon Indian Island, an island off the coast of England around the 1930s. Strangers to each other, slowly they reveal their shameful pasts. Coincidently, the name which they were invited by, Mr. U. N. Owen sounds similar to that of the word ââ¬Å"unknown.â⬠Among the characters is a Mr. Wargrave, a recently retired judge, who is intelligent, cold, and commanding. He takes leadership on the island after the killings begin. Wargrave is the first to insist publicly that they are dealing with a homicidal maniac, and the first to acknowledge that the killer must be part of their group. Vera Claythorne is witty and believes she was hired as a secretary to Mrs. Owen. Philip Lombard, a mysteri ous man, served as a soldier in Africa and often carries a gun with him. Among the other characters are William Blore, an ex-detective, and Dr. Armstrong who thinks he has been hired to look after the wife of the islandââ¬â¢s owner. Emily Brent, General Macarthur, Tony Marston think they have been invited for a visit with old friends. And Then There Were None examines justice, but it bends the manifestation by making the victims of murder, people who committed murder themselves. It expresses the theme of what the burden of oneââ¬â¢s own guilty conscience can lead that person to perform. à à à à à Upon arriving on the island, they are greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers who were hired as the butler and housekeeper. That evening after dinner they hear a recorded voice accusing each of them of a specific murder committed in the past and never uncovered. Talking about the accusations, they realize none of them actually have ever met or know ââ¬Å"Mr. U.N. Owen.â⬠As they ponder this mysterious matter, Tony Marston chokes on poisoned whiskey and dies. Vera Claythorne observes similarities between the death of Marston and the first verse of a nursery rhyme, ââ¬Å"Ten Little Indians,â⬠that hangs in each bedroom. The next morning the guests find that Mrs. Rogers apparently died in her sleep. The guests hope to leave that morning, but the boat that regularly delivers supplies to the island do... ...gives the book a wonderful plot and ending. The book addresses the idea that only the dead are above suspicion. A baffling mystery, And Then There Were None can be enjoyed by even the most immature [of people]. ââ¬Å"Ten Little Indiansâ⬠Ten little Indian boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were nine. Nine little Indian boys sat up very late; One overslept himself and then there were eight. Eight little Indian boys traveling in Devon; One said he'd stay there and then there were seven. Seven little Indian boys chopping up sticks; One chopped himself in halves and then there were six Six little Indian boys playing with a hive; A bumblebee stung one and then there were five. Financial Statement Essay: Internal & External Users Essay
Abstract Whether or not myself or anybody else who may or may not be going to school to be an accountant, itââ¬â¢s still important to know the basic fundamentals of more than just a business and/ or company but the numbers as well. Any success comes from the time, patience, passion, potential, and MONEY. Money is most important because without it, how can anything become an investment. We have to learn the four basic financial statements to set ourselves for a future. Even if there are ones who are going to be internal users- such as managers or external users- ones who are creditors and investors that may use financial statements to use as a tool of decision making. In this essay, I have discussed the importance of financial statements and the usefulness that it is to both internal and external users. Identifying & describing the four basic financial statements. The backbone of financial accounting is arranged in four different financial statements. The first would be a balance sheet, in which the purpose of this financial statement is presenting a picture at a point in time of what the business owns (assets) and what it owes its (liabilities). The second, an income statement, which shows how successful your business is performed during a period of time and this is where you report all the revenues and expenses. Third, the retained earnings statement, which indicates how much of previous income was distributed to you and the other owners of your business in the form of dividends- shares, and how much was retained in the business to allow for further growth and increase. Lastly, a statement of cash flows, which shows where your business obtained cash during a period of time and how much cash was used. How financial statements can be useful to internal users. Financial statements would be useful to internal users because managers are those who plan, organize, and run an entire business; they have to be able to present summarized financial information, which is a financial statement. It is important for them to know because numbers matters when it comes down to any type of business. They have so many important questions that needs to be asked and answered; for an example, ââ¬Å"Is cash sufficient to pay dividends to Microsoft stockholders,â⬠which is a Finance question. All the information has to be detailed on a timely basis. Also, for internal users, accounting provides internal reports, such as forecasts of cash needs for the next year. How financial statements can be useful to external users. External users are investors- owners, creditors, and investors. Financial statements are very important when it comes down to external users. Investors buy and sell stocks based upon their own belief of a companyââ¬â¢s performance in the future; they are always interested in a companyââ¬â¢s past net income because it does provide information for predicting how well the companyââ¬â¢s will do. For an example, The United Airlines, creditors will ask ââ¬Å"Will United Airlines be able to pay its debts as they come due?â⬠Concerns all depends on the past, present, and future of a companyââ¬â¢s success of its net income because if investors and creditors didnââ¬â¢t have assurance in different types of businesses then the economy would suffer. Many prospective companyââ¬â¢s look to receive loans and borrow money so they can invest into something they have been planning over a period of time but, doesnââ¬â¢t have the funds to cover it so they are in need of sources to finance their vision. It takes money to make money. References Kimmel, P. D., Weygandt, J. J., & Kieso, D. E. (2011). Financial accounting: Tools for business making (6th ed.). Hoboken, NJ: John Wiley & Sons.

Behaviorism Theory Of Classical Conditioning - 1700 Words
Behaviorism is a theory that behavior can be altered through conditioning. Behaviorism does not focus on thoughts or feelings of the subject, just their behavior. Ivan Pavlov was a major part of this movement of behaviorism with his theory of classical conditioning. The most important part of classical conditioning is that it is done through repetition. In his experiment he began with noticing that an unconditioned stimulus like dog food causes an unconditioned response like salivation. He then noticed that if there was a neutral stimulus like the blowing of a whistle, there would be no conditioned response like the dog not salivating. Then he began to condition the dogs. He would blow the whistle and then send food out to the dog, causing them to salivate. Because this was done repeatedly, when the dogs heard the whistle they knew food was coming and began to salivate (Slavin, pg 102). This meant he conditioned the dogs so that a conditioned stimulus like a whistle caused the dogs t o have a conditioned response of salivation. Another example of behaviorism is B.F. Skinnerââ¬â¢s theory of operant conditioning. Skinner discovered that peoplesââ¬â¢ behavior is based off consequences. He noticed that there are positive reinforcements, negative reinforcements, positive punishments, and negative punishments. He discovered that if someone wants to encourage a behavior, they can provide a positive reinforcement which is adding a stimulus to increase the frequency of that good behavior.Show MoreRelatedThe Theory Of Classical Conditioning And Behaviorism753 Words à |à 4 PagesThe paper explores the life and the theory of a Russian scientist, physiologist call Ivan Pavlov, who was born in Russia in September 23, 1849 and died in February 27, 1936. Book Report (the Perks of Being a Wallflower) - 1016 Words
Amanda Prado -- Summer Reading Journal The Perks of being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chobsky In The Perks... there are a variety of personalities portrayed through the book. Charlie being the wallflower of the title, was different from most of the other students at his high school. He understood what most didn t and didn t judge anyone for who they are or what they were like; on the contrary, he actually thought about and sometimes asked why they decided to be that way, and there was nothing more to it. Through out the book, entirely composed of letters to an unnamed friend, he explains how he met eccentric people, like Sam and her step-brother Patrick; two kids a few years older than the at the time freshman Charlie. I admire how maturely Charlie explained the quote, I would die for you. But I won t live for you. His idea that every person has to live for his/her own life and then make the choice to share it with other people. In my opinion also, I think that I and pretty much everyone else is alike Charlie, because we can be open and agree to other s thoughts. We can all watch, and hear and talk about differing opinions and in the end not really judge the opinions. The fact that Stephen Chobsky chose to create a story about a boy growing up and being labeled different catagories, especially a wallflower, is an interesting idea. Most authors wouldn t be so daring to write about something so controversial. And Charlie s story is controversial; most parents and teachers wouldn t want their children to read something about the experiences that a boy has in high sc hool, but at some point we have to realize what s true and false. Supply chain represents the flow of information and finances also and not just materials. Here, information means the knowledge of delivery dates and stock updates. Materials flow in the direction of the supply chain while finances flow in the opposite direction and information flows in both the directions (Renganathan, 2014). Operational Management Methodologies and Exemplary
Question: Discuss about the Operational Management Methodologies and Exemplary. Answer: Introduction Advancement of appropriate operational methodologies and exemplary alteration in the organizations' operation is connected with the comprehension of the problems connected with the current business process of one association. In this paper, the main role is connected with building up the attitudes in regards to the correct comprehension of the operational hypotheses and simulations given the present operations of one assembling endeavor. The appraisal of the contextual investigation of Hawkesbury Cabinets Pty Ltd that connected with custom-form kitchen cabinetry for the Chinese people group in that locale has given the subtle elements of the issues connected with operation. Discussion Principle specialized issue for this situation study can be highlighted as the resistance in the operation and money related administration. The customary business methodology of the association was connected with the improvement of the specially crafted kitchen, yet the sector business development has empowered the organization to take the requests of institutionalized kitchen cabinetry items. The movement with the institutionalized cabinetry generation has demonstrated the way that the organization was not set up for this activities. It has been found that the requests frame the manufacturers are for the most part clump based that contains request of one to five cabinetry advancement of same determination (Armitage, 2012). It influences the conveyance arrangement of the association and applies weight in the operational framework. Focussing on the assembling unit of the association it has been found that the unit is constrained just in the Mulgrave. There is no office of various gen eration unit for the handcrafted item and standard cabinetry. It is the fundamental need of the generation business framework that diverse generation office is crucial for two unique sorts of item, else it will make issue underway. In this way, it has been found for the situation investigation of Hawkesbury Cabinetry that the custom and standard items are rivaling each other in preparing time (Bhadur, 2008). Specialized investigation of the generation office of the association has shown the accessibility of top notch bureau making hardware guarantee adaptability in the extensive variety of custom cabinetry preparing. Be that as it may, the upkeep of the two unique parts of item advancement is connected with expanding the weight on the distinctive segments of the assembling unit and the specialist. As the dishonor of the business is chiefly connected with the specially designed item, it is normal that the significant need has been given towards custom item, and it make an issue on ti me conveyance of the standard items. The general outline of the specialized perspectives and issues are connected with the corporate technique and office mission of the Association (Bhadur, 2008).Considering specialized effectiveness it has been found that the organization is confronting the operational issues seeing five noteworthy angles, for example, process, limit, offices, incorporation and foundation. It has been found that the technical procedure is unrealistic in this organization as it exclusively ward of craftsmanship and improvement of the quality item is connected with a necessity of enough time. Diminish in the limit because of assembling unit impediment has raised the weight on the lead time administration of the organization (Bisen Srivastava, 2009). Offices are less as given one, and only area and augmentation of the assembling unit is impractical in that constrained spot. Incorporation is not honed in the business operation because of the support of the quality. On e critical downside of the area of the assembling unit of the organization is connected with keeping up a different spot for machines and different less much of the time utilized machines. It is obstructing the free space that can be utilized for controlling some different spot for the standard item (Bisen Srivastava, 2009). As a general chief, Mei Chan has comprehended the need of joining the new manufacturers' kitchen line in the business operation of Hawkesbury Cabinetry. Be that as it may, the movement with the thought has brought about the formation of issues in the creation operation of the organization. The real expectation behind the joining of new line standard cabinetry item is included the sense to guarantee better income and appropriate business development in the business sector (Chopra Meindl, 2007). One noteworthy issue on the standard item is that it principally of low volume get that hampers the season of the organization. A joining of new operations and marking of a further contract is subject to the best possible comprehension of the efficiency and limit investigation. The new line joining highlights the issues seeing the poor operational choice as pattern investigation, even examination, vertical examination and budgetary examination has not been executed according to the desire (Cho pra Meindl, 2007). What's more, the consolidation of the developers' Kitchen line has influenced the capital and work a proportion of the association. It is because of ascending in the weight of lead time and lack in the assembling limit of the firm. The real worry of Hawkesbury Cabinetry is connected with uniquely crafted cabinetry for the Chinese people group. Parallel adjustment of low volume contracts from the developers bringing about the stopping up of the halfway finished standard item function as the essential need of the organization is the custom item. Upgrade in the short notice orders bargains from the developers has brought about the half-finished standard cabinetry in different phases of the assembling unit divisions that hampers the extensive assembling region and ascend in working space challenges (Dashwood, 2013). Considering the accessible writing content, it has been normal that without appropriate administration of the business operation and fuse of new business activities is connected with considering the lead time administration and stock administration capacity (Gavrilin, 2014). If an association has neglected to break down bother capacities, then a few issues can emerge in the business operation Capital and work proportion make an issue in regards to appropriate accessibility of the apparatus for generation and effective administration of work hours. Differential operations arrangement of the items results in the lack of assets for one operational unit that can make profitability issue (Hess, 2009). Contingent upon the writing discoveries it can be proposed that the improvement of the cost effectiveness arranging is the significant worry of any business operation as it at last guarantees the accomplishment of the Association. The appropriate measure of motorization is important for the upkeep of the business economy relies on upon the interest of the item, adaptability of the item and consistent support of the supply of the item in the business sector. Every one of these procedures is included with a certain measure of money. Money related structure of the association in regards to the business operation is connected with different formative parts of the business center operations (Ito Rose, 2009). Time skyline is one of the significant parts of this as long time skyline and a transient skyline of item supply influence the monetary structure in a various way. Aside from that advancement of the preparation program, work power size control, asset keeping up, stock upkeep and chan ge of the item quality are connected with the cost upgrade procedure of the Association (Ito Rose, 2009). Considering the contextual investigation of Hawkesbury Cabinetry it has been found that the joining of the developers' kitchen generation move is influencing the money related structure of the association. As talked about before in the article that the new business activity results in rising a few issues in the business center offices of the association. Current business activities have guaranteed the development of the organization however according to the computation of the bookkeeper the overall revenue of Hawkesbury Cabinetry is considerably less however the deal is solid, and it is relentlessly expanding. It is obvious that high-cost issue is a huge part of the standard developers' items. Ascend in the expense is because of proficient stock administration (Ito Rose, 2009). Ascend in crude materials, assets and prepared work drive the association to lease the adjacent distribution center that builds the expense of the association. The issue in the present design is likewise maki ng an issue for the association, and it plainly demonstrates an augmentation in assembling a unit that will include more money (Zelenkov, 2015). Significant patron of the benefit for Hawkesbury Cabinetry is hand crafted cupboards while the standard cupboards just add to the 39for each penny of the organization and contribute just to the 24for every penny of yearly income. In any case, this income is not of much huge for operations as joining of standard procedure has expanded the lead time, space smash in assembling unit and weight on workers (Zelenkov, 2015). Conclusion In this way, it can be finished up from the above contextual analysis examination and write discoveries that operational business choice can confront a few issues in regards to some choice without thought of the ability of the business. If there should arise an occurrence of Hawkesbury Cabinetry, it has been found that the significant issues of the operational administration are connected with the specialized routine of the association in regards to process, limit, offices, combination and foundation of the business operation. Moreover, a budgetary structure of the Hawkesbury Cabinetry has likewise changed because of the standard cupboards as it has expanded the expense on lead time administration, stock expense and specialists cost. Besides, as the requests are mostly clump arranged it is likewise connected with less net revenue. References Armitage, A. (2012). Expectations for the Future of Finland â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Expectations for the Future of Finland. Answer: Introduction: Expectations for the future of Finland can be described with the help of some macroeconomic factors like future trend of gross domestic product (GDP), private and government consumption, final domestic demand and net export from with it can be predicted that the county can either develop its economic condition in future or can experience economic slowdown (Hansen 2017). Moreover, this view can also be supported by the future trend of GDP deflator, unemployment rate, households saving ratio and gross debt of the general government as those factors can influence the economic condition of a country significantly. Discussion: Through analyzing the percentage change of GDP of Finland, based on the market prices of 2010, it can be stated that the countrys national income is going to increase in future but at a slower rate. The chief reason behind this slowdown can be described with the help of total domestic demand and net export of the country, where both factors also can achieve growth at a slower rate (Nikunen 2017). This further implies that the economic condition of Finland can experience a poor situation due to decrease in private and government consumptions along with stockbuilding. Hence, the country cannot accumulate sufficient amount of capital to invest further, which in turn can hamper the total production of the country in future. This situation can further decrease the countrys export while to maintain the same level of consumption, Finland needs to import more goods and services than before. Those economic phenomenons can hamper the countrys growth rate in future and it can be very difficult for Finland to overcome from this trap of vicious cycle of poverty. In addition to this, other factors like GDP deflator, unemployment rate household savings ratio and gross debt of the government can also be taken under consideration to describe the future expectations of this country (Davis, Konstantinidis and Tripodis 2017). The GDP deflator can be increased in future at an increasing rate, which means the country is going face inflation in future. However, the unemployment rate of this country can be increased at a slower rate though it is going to remain at a higher level. On the other side, household savings ratio may remain at stable position along with the gross debt of the government. Hence, after analyzing the changing pattern of those macroeconomic factors, it can be predicted that the countrys economic condition is going to face some constraints in future. In this context, it can be mentioned that the countrys national income is chiefly depended upon the exports. However, the changing pattern of demand in international market for the intermediate and investment goods can hamper the export trend of Finland in future, which in turn can influence the GDP of this country to decrease (Coad and Vezzani 2017). In addition to this, the changing pattern of household consumption can also be described the help of GDP deflator, where it can be seen that due to high level of inflation, purchasing power of domestic people is going to decrease. Hence, in future the standard of living can be declined and consequently, the citizens of Finland can experience poor condition compare to present year. Future expectations: Thus, Finland needs to take some immediate action to protect its economic condition in future. For this effective policies regarding international trade and business is very important as it can help the country to increase its national income at a higher rate. Moreover, the government of this country can expand its expenditure through investment, which in turn can also develop the economic condition of this country. Moreover, some affective governmental policies are also required to control the increasing trend of inflation otherwise; Finland cannot increase its domestic consumption (Leimbach et al. 2017). Hence, the country needs to focus on the future development of its national income as it can further helps the country to reduce its gross debt and can also influence to increase the household savings ratio for future investment. As the country is going to face higher level of unemployment, it is also important to generate more employment opportunities as it can help the countrys n ational and domestic consumption to increase in future (Pierre 2018). Hence, it can be expected from Finland that it can improve its economic conditions in future by taking proper economical policies that can influence the countrys national income to increase along with net export and aggregate demand. Conclusion: In conclusion, it can be stated that Finland has achieved a well economic position in 2017 though it can be declined in future due to slow growth trend of national income along with private and governmental consumption and net export. On the other side, some negative factors like inflation rate, unemployment rate and total debt of the government is going to increase or may remain stable. Hence, the government of Finland may take initiative to protect this country. National policy on education free essay sample
As a democratic society with a diverse population of different cultures, languages and religions we are duty bound to ensure that through our diversity we develop a unity of purpose and spirit that recognises and celebrates our diversity. This should be particularly evident in our public schools where no particular religious ethos should be dominant over and suppress others. Just as we must ensure and protect the equal rights of all students to be at school, we must also appreciate their right to have their religious views recognised and respected. We do not have a state religion. But our country is not a secular state where there is a very strict separation between religion and the state. The Policy recognises the rich and diverse religious heritage of our country and adopts a cooperative model that accepts our rich heritage and the possibility of creative inter-action between schools and faith whilst, protecting our young people from religious discrimination or coercion. We will write a custom essay sample on National policy on education or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page What we are doing through this Policy is to extend the concept of equity toà the relationship between religion and education, in a way that recognises the rich religious diversity of our land. In the Policy, we do not impose any narrow prescriptions or ideological views regarding the relationship between religion and education. Following the lead of the Constitution and the South African Schools Act, we provide a broad framework within which people of goodwill will work out their own approaches. The Policy is neither negative nor hostile towards any religion or faith and does not discriminate against anyone. Rather it displays a profound respect towards religious faith and affirms the importance of the study of religion and religious observances. Professor Kader Asmal Minister of Education STAATSKOERANT, 12 SEPTEMBER 2003 No. 25459 Introduction to the Policy on Religion and Education 1. In this document we set out the policy on the relationship between religion and education that we believe will best serve the interests of our democratic society. The objective is to influence and shape this relationship, in a manner that is in accordance with the values of our South African Constitution1. In recognising the particular value of the rich and diverse religious heritage of our country, we identify the distinctive contribution that religion can make to education, and that education can make to teaching and learning about religion, and we therefore promote the role of religion in education. In doing so we work from the premise that the public school has an educational responsibility for teaching and learning about religion and religions, and for promoting these, but that it should do so in ways that are different from the religious instruction and religiousnurture provided by the home, family, and religious community. 2. We do so also in the recognition that there have been instances in which public education institutions have discriminated on the grounds of religious belief, such that greater definition is required. In many cases pupils of one religion are subjected to religious observances in another, without any real choice in the matter. The policy is not prescriptive, but provides a framework for schools to determine policies, and for parents and communities to be better informed of their rights and responsibilities in regard to religion and education. The policy genuinely advances the interests of religion, by advocating a broad based range of religious activities in the school. 3. In clarifying the relationship between religion and education, we might consider four possible models for structuring the relationship between religion and the state: A theocratic model identifies the state with one particular religion or religious grouping. In some cases, this model has resulted in a situation in which the state and religion become indistinguishable. In a religiously diverse society such as South Africa, this model clearly would be inappropriate. At the other extreme, a repressionist model is based on the premise that the state should act to suppress religion. In such a model, the state would operate to 1 The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa (Act 108 of 1996) No. 25459 GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, 12 SEPTEMBER 2003 marginalise or eliminate religion from public life. In a religiously active society such as South Africa, any constitutional model based on state hostility towards religion would be unthinkable. We reject both the theocratic model of the religious state, such as the Christian-National state in our own history that tried to impose religion in public institutions, as well as any repressionist model that would adopt a hostile stance towards religion. A modern secular state, which is neither religious nor anti -religious, in principle adopts a position of impartiality towards all religions and other woridviews. A separationist model for the secular state represents an attempt to completely divorce the religious and secular spheres of a society, such as in France or the United States. Drawing strict separation between religion and the secular state is extremely difficult to implement in practice, since there is considerable interchange between religion and public life. Furthermore, a strict separation between the two spheres of religion and state is not desirable, since without the commitment and engagement of religious bodies it is difficult to see us improving the quality of life of all our people. In a co-operative model, both the principle of legal separation and the possibility of creative interaction are affirmed. Separate spheres for religion and the state are established by the Constitution, but there is scope for interaction between the two. While ensuring the protection of citizens from religious discrimination or coercion, this model encourages an ongoing dialogue between religious groups and the state in areas of common interest and concern. Even in such exchanges, however, religious individuals and groups must be assured of their freedom from any state interference with regard to freedom of conscience, religion, thought, belief, and opinion. In regard to the relationship between religion and public education, we propose that the cooperative model which combines constitutional separation and mutual recognition, provides a framework that is best for religion and best for education in a democratic South Africa. STAATSKOERANT 12 SEPTEMBER 2003 5. No. 25459 Under the constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion, the state, neither advancing nor inhibiting religion, must assume a position of fairness, informed by a parity of esteem for all religions, and worldviews. This positive impartiality carries a profound appreciation of spirituality and religion in its many manifestations, as reflected by the deference to God in the preamble to our Constitution, but does not impose these. . Background to the policy on Religion and Education 6. This Policy for Religion and Education is the result of many years of research and consultation. This commenced with the National Education Policy Investigation of the early 1990s, was taken further in the National Education and Training Forum during the transitional period of 1993-1994, and in the extensive consultations around the South African Schools Act, prior to 1996. It was further developed by the Ministerial Committee on Religious Education in 1999, and the Standing Advisory Committee on Religion and Education, established for this purpose in 2002. Reviewing the progress made in all of this work, we see an emerging consensus about the relationship between religion and education. 7. This policy links religion and education with new initiatives in cultural rebirth (the African Renaissance), moral regeneration, and the promotion of values in our schools. Religion can play a significant role in preserving our heritage, respecting our diversity, and building a future based on progressive values. 8. To achieve these goals, the relationship between religion and education must be guided by the following principles: In all aspects of the relationship between religion and education, the practice must flow directly from the constitutional values of citizenship, human rights, equality, freedom from discrimination, and freedom of conscience, religion, thought, belief, and opinion. Public institutions have a responsibility to teach about religion and religions in ways that reflect a profound appreciation of the spiritual, non -material aspects of life, but which are different from the religious education, religious instruction, or religious nurture provided by the home, family, and religious community. Religion Education should contribute to creating an integrated and informed No. 25459 GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, 12 SEPTEMBER 2003 community that affirms unity in diversity. Teaching about religion, religions, and religious diversity needs to be facilitated by trained professionals, and programmes in Religion Educationmust be supported by appropriate and credible teaching and learning materials, and objective assessment criteria. The Context 9. South Africa is a multi-religious country. Over 60 per cent of our people claim allegiance to Christianity, but South Africa is home to a wide variety of religious traditions. With a deep and enduring indigenous religious heritag e, South Africa is a country that also embraces the major religions of the world. Each of these religions is itself a diverse category, encompassing many different understandings and practices. At the same time, many South Africans draw their understanding of the world, ethical principles, and human values from sources independent of religious institutions. In the most profound matters of life orientation, therefore, diversity is a fact of our national life. 10. Our diversity of language, culture and religion is a wonderful national asset. We therefore celebrate diversity as a unifying national resource, as captured in our Coat of Arms: ! Ke E:/Xarra //ke (Unity in Diversity). This policy for the role of religion in education is driven by the dual mandate of celebrating diversity and building national unity. Values 11. This policy for the role of religion in education flows directly from the Constitutional values of citizenship, human rights, equality, freedom from discrimination, and freedom for conscience, religion, thought, belief, and opinion. By enshrining these basic values, the Constitution provides the framework for determining the relationship between religion and education in a democratic society 12. Our Constitution has worked out a careful balance between freedom for religious belief and expression and freedom from religious coercion and discrimination. On the one hand, by ensuring that Everyone has the right to freedom of conscience, religion, STAATSKOERANT, 12 SEPTEMBER 2003 No. 25459 thought, belief, and opinion, the Constitution2 guarantees freedom of and for religion, and citizens are free to exercise their basic right to religious conviction, expression, and association. On the other hand, by ensuring equality in the enjoyment of all the rights, privileges, and benefits of citizenship, the Constitution explicitly prohibits unfair discrimination on grounds that include religion, belief, and conscience. Protected from any discriminatory practices based on religion, citizens are thereby also free from any religious coercion that might be implied by the state. The South African Schools Act (Act 94 of 1996) upholds the constitutional rights of all citizens to freedom of conscience, religion, thought, belief and opinion, and freedom from unfair discrimination on any grounds whatsoever, including religion, in public education institutions. 14. Within this constitutional framework, public schools have a calling to promote the core values of a democratic society, through the curriculum, through extra -curricular activities, and in the way that they approach religious festivals, school uniforms and even diets. As identified in the report of the ministerial committee on values in education, these core values include equity, tolerance, multilingual ism, openness, accountability, and social honour. Our policy on religion in education must be consistent with these values, and the practices of schools may be tested against the following national priorities: Equity: The education process in general, and this policy, must aim at the development of a national democratic culture with respect for the value of all of our peoples diverse cultural, religious and linguistic traditions. Tolerance: Religion in education must contribute to the advancement of inter- religious toleration and interpersonal respect among adherents of different religious or secular worldviews in a shared civil society. Diversity: In the interest of advancing informed respect for diversity, educational institutions have a responsibility for promoting multi-religious knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of religions in South Africa and the world. Openness: Schools, together with the broader society, play a role in culturalformation and transmission, and educational institutions must promote a spirit of openness in which there shall be no overt or covert attempt to indoctrinate pupils 2 Sections 15(1) and (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa 11 No. 25469 GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, 12 SEPTEMBER 2003 into any particular belief or religion. Accountability : As systems of human accountability, religions cultivate moral values and ethical commitments that can be recognised as res ources for learning and as vital contributions to nation building. Social Honour: While honouring the linguistic, cultural, religious or secular backgrounds of all pupils, educational institutions cannot allow the overt or covert denigration of any religion or secular world-view. THE POLICY Application 15. The policy covers the different aspects of Religion Education, Religious Instruction and Religious Observances, and is applicable in all public schools. The spirit of the policy, which is to embrace the religious diversity of South Africa, must also be applied at other levels of the education system, including District, Provincial and National level gatherings.
